In today's society,
which is so individualistic, the relations of an extended family inevitably
loosen up to make even the sense of descending from the same ancestors
disappear.
We, the older ones, try
to keep this thread alive because we remember well how much our loved ones
loved each other. Irene Riva, sister of Anna Riva Peyer, grew up in the
"Riva home" as a daughter. Anna was a sweet and constant presence for
all of us. Kurt inherited his sympathy, gentleness and affection for his
"Italian family". But in addition to affection there remains a wealth
of history and values which, like seeds, were planted by our old people and
still bear fruit. Riva Guido taught my grandfather Paolo the political and
social commitment. My grandfather passed it on to my mother Enrica and
certainly Anna passed it on to her Kurt who found the ideal companion with
Mabel so much that even today she has the strength to witness her solidarity in
a mosque after the massacre in New Zealand. The other brothers Riva (Demetrio,
Chiara, Giuseppe) shared a strict conception of dignity to be honored through
work.
So let us not only
honor the affection of our old people, but we greet with joy the fact of discovering
here at Monza, in Zurich and in Canada, children of a common, open, respectful
view of the world, committed, with a "serious" conception of work and
life. Even in all this we are relatives and heirs of a common heritage to be
transmitted to our children and grandchildren.
